Back Pain

How to get Pain Free

Back Pain is sadly a very common condition that people experience. And it can be very painful and debilitating.  Research suggests that up to 80% of the population will experience some lower back pain at some point in their lives.  For many people it will settle down and disappear with careful management and early intervention.

If you have a new injury try following these 3 simple steps to help the process of recovery.

STAGE 1

Reduce Inflammation

First you will need to reduce inflammation as this can lead to swelling and pain. To do this, cool the area by wrapping a thin cloth around some ice cubes in a plastic bag or frozen peas. Then place this over your back where the pain is. After between 10 and 15 minutes remove it and repeat again after 1 or 2 hours. Never place ice directly onto the skin as this will cause injury to the skin and an additional problem!

Alternatively, you can use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g. ibuprofen) to help reduce the levels of inflammation. Obviously, always read the label and speak to your GP or pharmacist if necessary.

STAGE 2

Stay Active

Keeping some gentle movement in the area will stop joints from locking. Lying in bed for prolonged periods has shown to make back pain worse in the long term. Therefore, you should do some light activities that keep some gentle movement to your back throughout the day, such as going for a walk.

STAGE 3

Seek Advice

If your pain does not start to improve after two or three days you should make an appointment with one our qualified professionals at Chiro Relief. Alternatively, find another chiropractor, osteopath or physiotherapist that you trust. If you are worried about your back pain or other symptoms, you can speak to your GP.

At Chiro Relief we do offer free advice. Additionally, all of our treatments are tailored to your needs. Studies showed strong evidence supporting chiropractic manipulation for the treatment of lower back pain (1, 2). Back pain can be complicated to treat, and may require a combination of treatments. Other treatments showing benefit were massage, and exercise therapy (1). Therefore, at Chiro Relief a careful examination helps us identify the correct treatment to get results quickly and therefore cost-effectively.
